Residents in Dubai are being warned about fraudsters attempting to exploit the current regional situation by posing as officials from crisis management authorities and law enforcement. In a statement, Dubai Police said it has detected attempts by scammers impersonating employees allegedly affiliated with Dubai Crisis Management and falsely claiming links to Dubai Police. According to the statement, the fraudsters are trying to obtain sensitive personal information, including UAE Pass credentials and Emirates ID details. “These attempts aim to unlawfully obtain sensitive information, including UAE Pass credentials and Emirates ID details,” Dubai Police said. Authorities cautioned that sharing such data could allow criminals to carry out SIM swap operations and gain unauthorised access to victims’ bank accounts through mobile banking applications. Dubai Police stressed that it does not request confidential information or verification codes via phone calls or text messages under any circumstances. The force urged the public not to share personal or banking information with any unverified party and to report suspected fraud immediately by calling 901 or through the official eCrime platform dedicated to cybercrime reports. Authorities are reminding residents that scammers often take advantage of moments of uncertainty to create panic and pressure victims into sharing confidential details. If you receive a suspicious call or message claiming to be from a government department, officials advise hanging up immediately and contacting authorities through official numbers. Dubai Police reiterated that protecting personal data is the first line of defence against cybercrime, especially during times when misinformation and fear can spread quickly.

Scams surface during heightened tensions

The warning comes after Iran launched missile and drone attacks against the UAE following US and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets that triggered regional retaliation. Since February 28, UAE air defence systems have intercepted hundreds of incoming projectiles over two days, with debris reported in parts of the country. Authorities have repeatedly assured residents that the situation remains under control. The Ministry of Defence said it remains in a high state of readiness and fully prepared to address any threats. It stressed that targeting the country constitutes a violation of national sovereignty and international law, adding that the UAE reserves the right to take necessary measures to protect its territory and ensure national security. The Ministry of Interior also said it is closely monitoring regional developments and remains at the highest level of readiness in coordination with relevant entities.
