DUBAI – A Dubai policeman convicted of posing as a CID officer in a fake arrest has lost his appeal and will be spending three years in jail.
The Dubai Court of Appeal on Sunday upheld the verdict on the Emirati.
According to records, the Emirati policeman, along with a Palestinian and a Comoros Island national, posed as CID officers to arrest a Pakistani trader over an alleged illegal currency sale in Al Baraha.
They took Dh272,000 from trader and then fled the scene. The case unraveled after the Pakistani victim reported the incident to the police, who arrested the conmen.
It was later learned that the Emirati had directed two Cameroonian nationals to make a bogus business deal with the trader in the fake entrapment in Al Baraha.
Investigations revealed that the Cameroonians were paid Dh15,000 each for their role, while the Palestinian cohort received Dh72,000 and the Comoros Island national pocketed Dh60,800, while the Emirati kept the remaining money.
An Emirati policeman testified at the Dubai Criminal Court that the policeman involved is not a CID officer and in fact worked at the correctional establishments.
