The Dubai Civil Court has ordered a parent to settle Dh125,706 in overdue tuition fees owed to a private school, ruling in favor of the institution after repeated attempts to recover the money failed. The case was filed after the Arab father fell behind on payments for his two children. Despite initially agreeing to an instalment plan, he failed to honor the agreement and stopped attending court hearings. Court-appointed experts reviewed the school’s documents and confirmed that the father had only paid Dh35,000 out of the Dh160,706 owed, leaving Dh125,706 outstanding. In its ruling, the court ordered him to pay the amount with 5 percent annual interest from the date of the claim until full settlement, along with court fees and attorney’s costs. The judgment was issued in absentia under the Civil Procedure Law, which allows courts to rule if the defendant fails to attend proceedings. ICA/Expat Media
