Work on Dubai’s public beaches will be completed by December in time for the winter tourist season, according to the Dubai Municipality. Beaches in Al Mamzar Corniche, Jumeirah 1, Jumeirah 3 and Umm Suqeim 1 have undergone redevelopment and expansion for months. Dubai Municipality Director General Dawoud Al Hajri said the beaches underwent maintenance work due to their importance to Dubai’s tourist industry. This winter season is expected to be one of the busiest seasons for tourism in Dubai. The revamp of public beaches in Dubai came after Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced a Dh2 billion plan to create a dozen new beaches as well as more green spaces in Dubai. The plan includes the development of 12km of Dubai’s beaches, covering Al Mamzar beach to Umm Suqeim 2.
