International City residents in Dubai hit by unprecedented rain earlier this week said uncollected garbage is piling up in the community. As of 12pm on Saturday (April 20), piles of uncollected garbage could be seen overflowing into the pavements at International City’s Morocco cluster. Praveen (full name withheld) said garbage trucks were unable to collect the trash since the heavy downpour and subsequent flooding on Tuesday (April 16). “The smell is horrible, and you can see bags of trash surrounding the already full garbage bins. I hope the garbage trucks can resume regular collection because roads in and out of International City are clear since yesterday,” Praveen told Expat Media. Pia (full name withheld) said she had reported the issue to Dubai Municipality on Saturday. “They said that the team will look into soon as soon as possible, but to give them one to four days,” she told Expat Media. “It’s beginning to smell and there are flies. We need a solution otherwise this is going to be a health hazard,” a resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told Expat Media. Dubai authorities have been working round the clock to clear roads of floods and debris after heavy rain sparked widespread flooding earlier this week. Some of the worst-hit communities were Discovery Gardens and Mudon, with residents reporting waist-deep floodwaters in some areas. ICA/Expat Media
