A young Asian man in a viral video has been arrested by Dubai Police after he was seen driving recklessly on the shoulder of a highway, authorities confirmed. The video showed the driver overtaking vehicles at dangerously high speeds, disregarding traffic rules and endangering lives. Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said traffic patrols launched an immediate investigation once the footage surfaced. “This kind of behavior is a blatant violation of traffic laws and a serious threat to road users,” said Al Mazrouei. “Sharing such videos can encourage others to mimic these actions, especially teenagers who may not fully understand the risks.” The driver was swiftly identified by a specialized team and referred to legal authorities. He now faces charges under Dubai's traffic law, which mandates a Dh50,000 fine to release an impounded vehicle. Al Mazrouei revealed that 80 percent of similar offenders have been involved in major traffic accidents, some of which led to fatalities or serious injuries. “Reckless driving puts lives at risk. We will not tolerate it,” he said, urging the public to report violations via the “Police Eye” feature on the Dubai Police app or through the hotline 901. ICA/Expat Media
