A historic street in Dubai has been officially renamed to reflect a key chapter in the UAE’s formation history, with Al Faghi Street in Al Khawaneej now known as Sheikh Zayed Farm Street. The announcement was made by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) as part of a collaboration with the Dubai Road Naming Committee, aimed at linking the emirate’s urban landscape with nationally significant heritage sites. The renaming recognises the importance of Al Khawaneej Farm, owned by UAE's founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, as a central meeting point during the early stages of the UAE’s formation. In March 1971, the farm hosted a series of meetings over 16 consecutive days between Sheikh Zayed and the rulers of the other emirates. These discussions contributed to landmark agreements that shaped the union and the drafting of the UAE Constitution. In 2025, Al Khawaneej Farm was officially designated as the UAE’s third union site, alongside Union House and Arqoob Al Sedira, further cementing its national significance. The RTA said the renaming reflects efforts to preserve historical identity within modern infrastructure, ensuring that roads and public spaces continue to reflect the nation’s founding legacy. Signage updates have already been implemented in Al Khawaneej 2. Sheikh Zayed Farm remains one of the UAE’s most symbolic heritage landmarks, representing values of unity, leadership and national vision that shaped the country’s development into a global hub for quality of life and innovation.
