Dubai to reopen Al Maktoum International Airport in May

  DUBAI – Dubai will reopen Al Maktoum International, its second airport, in May for passenger flights, said the CEO of Dubai Airports. The Al Maktoum International Airport will serve as hub for some passenger flights diverted from Dubai International Airport while the main airport closes one of its runways for 45 days. Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, told Reuters that one of two runways at Dubai International Airport will be closed for refurbishment works during this period. Griffiths said that due to this, some passenger flights typically operating from Dubai International Airport will be transferred to Al Maktoum International Airport. He added that airlines already operating at Al Maktoum International Airport will continue flights there after the 45-day airport refurbishment work at Dubai International Airport. Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport continues to operate at 100 percent capacity since December and has been recognised as the world’s busiest airport in 2021.
