In a significant win for representation, Dubai-based model Logina Salah, who has vitiligo, was crowned Miss Universe Egypt 2024. Salah, 34, beat 12 finalists at the pageant in Cairo over the weekend and will represent Egypt at the Miss Universe competition in Mexico this November. Vitiligo is a condition that causes loss of skin pigment in patches, and Salah has faced bullying due to her appearance since childhood. Salah shared that she became an accidental advocate for people with her condition when she posted her photos on social media. “When I decided to share my picture without makeup and show my bare face on social media, this is when I started getting more followers, it turned into a powerful platform to inspire girls and women to break stereotypes, and today we are making history humbled to be the very first woman with a skin condition to win a universal pageant and being a mom proved that nothing can stop you from achieving your dreams,” Salah said. “I promise you that I will keep breaking the mould of narrow beauty standards, and I will continue my message as an inspirational transformational leader and together we will continue writing history and rising above adversity,” she added. Salah, who is a single mother, started her career as a make-up artist in Alexandria before moving to Dubai three years ago to pursue her dream of modeling. Since then, she has worked with some of the biggest brands in the fashion industry, including Chanel, Dior Beauty, and Sephora. The Miss Universe Egypt 2024 event was streamed live on YouTube and consisted of several segments, including swimwear, evening gown, and the final interview round. Salah’s grace and confidence stood out, making her the judges’ top choice. As the reigning Miss Universe Egypt, Salah hopes to use her platform to raise awareness about vitiligo and inspire others to embrace their differences. She is looking forward to representing Egypt at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico from November 14 to 16.
