Dubai’s iconic Sheikh Zayed Road transformed into a breathtaking cycling track for the iconic Dubai Ride on Sunday (November 10). A “record number” of cyclists took over the iconic highway for the fifth edition of Dubai Ride, according to Dubai Media Office. This year’s Dubai Ride topped last year’s record of more than 35,000 participants, with 37,130 riders showing up on Sunday. The Dubai Fitness Challenge event showcased the 12km Sheikh Zayed Road route past Burj Khalifa, Museum of the Future, and Dubai Water Canal; and the 4km Downtown family course around Downtown Dubai, through Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard and past Dubai Opera and Burj Khalifa. The event also introduced the exhilarating Dubai Ride Speed Laps for experienced cyclists, adding a challenging edge to the morning. This thrilling new addition saw participants push their limits and zip down the Sheikh Zayed Road route at an average pace of 30km/h, before joining family and friends for the main event. Dubai Police supercars led the start of Dubai Ride, and the presence of cyclists on novelty bikes were among some of the standout moments. Paris 2024 Olympics silver medalist Taylor Spivey and UAE's Olympics cyclist Safia Al Sayegh also joined riders on the 12km course. Several key routes, including parts of Sheikh Zayed Road, were shut down as early as 3:30am to accommodate Dubai Ride participants. The roads will remain closed until 10am. The affected section of Sheikh Zayed Road spans from the Trade Centre Roundabout to the second bridge. Additionally, Lower Financial Centre Road, connecting Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Khail Road, and a one-way closure on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard will also be in effect. Organized as part of the annual Dubai Fitness Challenge, Dubai Ride has become a popular event, attracting thousands of residents who celebrate the city’s push toward a more active lifestyle.
