The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced temporary road closures in Dubai on Sunday (February 2) for the L'Étape Dubai by Tour de France 2025 cycling race. Five major roads—Oud Metha Road, Dubai-Al Ain Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Road, Expo Road, and Lahbab Street—will be affected by the closures as the city plays host to the prestigious cycling event. The RTA has advised motorists to take alternative routes, including Ras Al Khor Road and Emirates Road, to avoid disruptions. The race will kick off at 6:30am from Dubai Design District (D3) and span a challenging 101 kilometers before concluding at Expo City. The event will bring together cyclists of all levels, offering two routes: a 101km course for experienced riders and a 50km course for cycling enthusiasts. Among the cycling legends set to participate are Ján Svorada and Peter Velits, both former Tour de France stage winners. Svorada, a Czech cycling icon, has three Tour de France stage wins under his belt, including a celebrated victory at the Champs-Élysées in 2001. Velits, a three-time world champion in team time trials and runner-up at the 2010 Vuelta a España, will also be competing alongside his brother, Martin Velits. Rising cycling star Jakub Truksa will also be taking part, representing the next generation of elite riders. The race promises breathtaking views of Dubai’s skyline and desert landscapes, making it a unique experience for participants and spectators alike. The RTA has urged commuters to plan their journeys accordingly, as traffic diversions and rolling road closures will be in effect until the race concludes. Authorities have also assured that public transport services will operate as usual, with additional measures in place to facilitate smooth traffic flow.
