Dubai authorities arrested 591 fare evaders and seized six vehicles as part of a crackdown on illegal taxis and public transport violators in the emirate, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The RTA conducted the inspections in June and July in collaboration with Dubai Police and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs. According to the RTA, its crackdown on fare evaders on Dubai's public buses led to the detection of nearly 700 offenses throughout the six-day operation. ALSO READ: Fare evasion in Dubai to cost you Dh200 fine On the crackdown on unlicensed transport activities, also known locally as car lifts, the RTA conducted inspections from June 15 to 30 in the Al Ghubaiba area, which resulted in the detection of 39 violators. There were 22 cases of passengers being transported in illegal vehicles and 17 offenses for promoting unlicensed taxi services. Six vehicles were seized during the operation in Al Ghubaiba where there is high demand for buses, taxis, and Dubai Metro. On fare evasion on public transport, the RTA detected 693 incidents across the emirate. Inspectors caught 591 people using public transportation without paying the correct fare. According to the RTA, there were 33 incidents of passengers failing to show a Nol card, while five cases involved the use of an invalid card. There was one case of obstructing the work of RTA inspectors and 61 incidents of not following instructions for the use of public transport and facilities. BKM/ Expat Media
