Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has expanded its nol Card services to include rental payments for electric scooters operated by RTA-accredited providers. “This initiative simplifies payment methods for e-scooter users and integrates them into Dubai’s broader public transport network,” said Salahuddin AlMarzooqi, Director of Automated Collection Systems. How it works
E-scooter users can now link their nol Card to authorized operator apps using NFC technology on their smartphone. The system allows for purchasing hourly, daily, or monthly packages, making it easier to plan commutes. To access this service, users must download the operator’s app. “Nol Cards are already a staple for metro, tram, and bus users. Extending this convenience to e-scooters was a natural progression,” AlMarzooqi added. RTA is upgrading its nol system to an Account-Based System instead of the traditional Card-Based Ticketing, adhering to global best practices. This upgrade will improve payment security and operational efficiency while offering features like trip planning, booking and pre-payment through smart channels. By enhancing accessibility, RTA aims to reduce congestion and promote eco-friendly transport options. This effort is part of Dubai’s Smart City initiatives, making the city a leader in urban innovation.
