This initiative aims to ensure safe school zones and enhance traffic awareness.
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is gearing up for the new academic year 2023-2024 with educational initiatives that target students, parents, and drivers, to make school zones free from traffic accidents and casualties. Eng. Maitha bin Adai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, said, "RTA’s awareness and technical teams are preparing to resume activities in schools and surroundings through awareness events, monitoring and adjusting traffic lights timing to ease the flow of traffic in school zones and nearby roads. RTA is aware of the responsibility towards students." To support the traffic safety strategy, RTA is coordinating awareness activities with schools and kindergartens, including the display of educational advertisements on the streets and educational videos to be shared on social media. QR codes will also be placed in back-to-school supply stores to promote safety guidelines. Continuing from previous years, initiatives like the "Golden Rules for the Safety of Generations'' will be reintroduced, including field activities and gifts for primary and secondary school students. High school students will also benefit from traffic awareness programs and a virtual training initiative for obtaining a virtual driver's license. Bin Adai urged the school bus drivers and parents to follow traffic rules and ensure safe drop-offs, and emphasized the importance of using child safety locks, not permitting children to cross streets alone, and to wear seat belts for even short distances. These initiatives by RTA reflect a commitment to creating a safer environment for students and commuters during the upcoming academic year.
