Dubai Safari under new management: What's changing?

  DUBAI - With the largest safari park in Dubai getting a new management, what changes are we expected to see? On Monday, it was announced that Dubai-based holding company Meraas has signed a deal with the Dubai Municipality to manage Dubai Safari. Meraas has also appointed animal park operator Parques Reunidos to operate the Dubai Safari in line with international best practices. With Meraas adding the Dubai Safari to its entertainment portfolio, we can expect to see more events at Dubai Safari to position it as a more global tourist destination. Meraas has been the driving force behind several of Dubai's new entertainment  and leisure destinations such as CityWalk, The Yard, Boxpark, The Beach, La Mer and The Outlet Village. Meraas deal with Dubai Municipality also aims to support wildlife conservation efforts through developing the skills of the local community in relevant fields, including veterinary medicine, animal care and breeding, said Abdulla Al Habbai, Group Chairman of Meraas. Park operator Parques Reunidos will be collaborating with schools to organise educational programmes. With a team of more than 300 staff members, the park operator can mobilise more team members dedicated to animal care in the safari park. Parques Reunidos will also offer global educational programmes aimed at raising awareness about wildlife and natural ecosystems. The park operator will also conduct studies of Dubai’s nature reserves, and provide consultation on the conservation and breeding of local endangered animal species including the Oryx and the Arabian Leopard.
