Dubai school closure puts parents, students in limbo DIBAI - Emirates English Speaking School in Dubai has announced that it will close permanently next year, with parents and students struggling to find an alternative. The school's management announced the news in June, citing "historically low school fees" as the reason behind the decision to shut down the school. The 30-year-old school in Al Safa will see the last batch of students graduating from the school in March 2019. The CBSE curriculum school runs classes from Kindergarten to Grade 12. "It is affecting so many children and families," said one parent of a Grade 3 student. Another parent of a Grade 2 student said his daughter is upset with the news and "does not want to leave this school". "My wife and I are worried about how she will cope with the change,” he said. A. Kumar, whose daughter is a grade 5 special education needs student at the school, said the family has tried to no avail to find an alternative school for her. Kumar said it would be difficult to find the support that his child needs at other schools, not to mention the low school fees. Annual tuition at the school starts at Dh3,568 for KG1 to Grade 11, one of the most affordable in the emirates. Around 20 teachers out of 105 have reportedly already left the school to find jobs elsewhere. There are currently 1,550 students enrolled in the school. J. Mathew said he was concerned that teaching standards would drop in the school but that he was keeping his daughter enrolled there "until it closes". The parent said it would be hard to transfer his daughter to another school at this stage.
