Dubai: Security guard convicted over Dh97,000 warehouse theft

The Dubai Criminal Court has found a security guard guilty of stealing Dh97,000 worth of goods from a warehouse in Dubai. Two other Asians were also found guilty by the court. The court sentenced the trio to jail, and also fined them the value of the stolen items. They will be deported after serving their sentence. The group stole sugar and raw materials from a warehouse in the emirate, with the security guard agreeing to the crime in exchange for Dh5,000. The theft happened last October. The company manager alerted police after finding out that cartons of items were missing in the warehouse. "On the day after the incident, I visited the warehouse and saw cartons of sugar and raw materials were missing. I saw the security camera footage where I witnessed the guard covering two other cameras, unaware of the presence of the third camera," the manager said. The manager said that the CCTV footage showed the guard opening the warehouse entrance for the thieves and assisting them in loading the cartons into a vehicle. Police were able to track down and arrest the security guard and the two other thieves. During interrogation, they confessed to their crime. RZSP/Expat Media
