Dubai seizes Dh1.2 billion of counterfeit items, arrests 262

The Dubai Police has confiscated counterfeit goods worth Dh1.2 billion and also arrested 262 people involved in selling or promoting the fake goods. The seized items were from 245 cases cracked down by the police force. The seizures and arrests were part of 447 cases recorded by the General Department of Criminal Investigations involving piracy, commercial fraud, counterfeiting, sorcery, and forgery. The cases resulted in the arrest of 497 people over financial crimes. According to the authority, it seized Dh110.4 million worth of items for commercial fraud, and arrested 167 people in 154 cases. The authority also seized Dh51 million worth of items over forgery, and arrested 68 people in 48 cases. Major General Jamal Salem Al-Jallaf, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigations at Dubai Police, said the arrests were made in coordination with trademark partners. ICA/Expat Media
