Dubai is set to add a major new attraction to its growing tourism portfolio following the announcement of Al Layan Oasis, a sprawling 10 million square foot desert destination. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the project on Tuesday (February 10), outlining plans for a nature-focused retreat designed to offer new outdoor and desert experiences. At the heart of Al Layan Oasis will be a 2.5 million square foot lake, forming the centrepiece of the development. The destination will combine water features with desert landscapes, recreational areas and family-friendly facilities. The project is part of a broader package backed by Dh4 billion in funding under Dubai’s Blue and Green Roadmap, an initiative focused on sustainability, environmental enhancement and quality-of-life projects across the emirate.

Four themed parks

Al Layan Oasis will be divided into four main zones: Hub Park, Family Park, Canyon Park and Trailer Park. Each zone will offer distinct experiences catering to different types of visitors. The destination will also feature three dedicated oasis sections designed for specific segments. The Camping Oasis will include 100 caravan camping sites, providing visitors with an organised desert camping experience. A fully equipped visitor centre will support campers and day visitors. The Gathering Oasis will serve as an entertainment and social hub. Plans include an open-air cinema, an outdoor theatre and a food truck plaza, creating a venue for community events, film screenings and live performances under the stars. For families, the Family Oasis will offer children’s play areas and open spaces designed for safe outdoor recreation.

Designed for outdoor living

Beyond its themed areas, Al Layan Oasis will feature 14 kilometres of walking and cycling tracks, encouraging active lifestyles. The development will also include 1,000 car parking spaces to accommodate visitors. Recreational facilities and sports trails will be integrated throughout the site, alongside camping areas and what officials described as new desert tourism experiences. The project is expected to welcome up to 330,000 visitors annually once operational, further strengthening Dubai’s position as a global tourism and leisure hub. ICA/Expat Media
