A new free zone will be established in Dubai that operates on renewable energy, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced on Monday (December 11). The Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai made the announcement as world leaders gathered in Dubai for the Conference of the Parties (COP28). “We announce a new vision for this city based on sustainability... a headquarters for companies... a platform for constructive partnerships... and a center for launching initiatives concerned with preserving and sustaining our planet. It is a free zone that operates entirely with clean, renewable energy, and a destination for pioneers of this sector, including major international institutions and emerging companies, in addition to universities and organizations, and professionals in the creative sector concerned with sustainability,” Sheikh Mohammed said on X. The Dubai ruler said it is a continuation of Dubai and the UAE’s work in “bringing countries together” to “create a better future for all”. “We call on everyone who seeks to achieve this goal to work with us in Expo City Dubai, which we built for the world, so that it continues to contribute to all that is good,” Sheikh Mohammed added.
