Dubai roads leading to the Burj Khalifa will be gradually closed on New Year’s Eve, the Dubai Police has announced. Senior traffic official Abdul Rehman Obaid Juma Al Falasi said Sheikh Zayed Road will be closed to traffic starting at 9pm to ease congestion around the world’s tallest tower where a grand fireworks show is expected to draw in thousands of people. Other roads in Downtown Dubai will be closed starting at 4pm. Here are road closures to expect: Al Sayel Street: 4pm onwards Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard: 4pm onwards Burj Khalifa Street: 4pm onwards Financial Centre Street, Lower Deck: 4pm onwards Al Mustaqbal Street: gradually closed from 4pm, between Financial Centre Street and Trade Centre Street Al Sukook Street: 8pm onwards Financial Centre Street, Upper Deck: 9pm onwards Sheikh Zayed Road towards Burj Khalifa: 9pm onwards Meanwhile, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that the Burj Khalifa Dubai Mall Metro Station will be closed at 5pm or as soon as the station exceeds capacity. Commuters are urged to use the nearest Metro stations Business Bay, Financial Centre, Emirates Towers and World Trade Center to reach the celebrations venue in Downtown Dubai. Metro users must ensure that their Nol card balance has a minimum of Dh15 for a round trip.
