133 Dubai shisha cafes fined for Covid-19 rule violations

  DUBAI – Weeks after being allowed to reopen, 133 shisha cafés in Dubai were fined and 8 others were shut down for violating Covid-19 rules in the UAE, according to Dubai Municipality. The municipality had conducted 1,228 spot inspections of shisha cafes in Dubai and found that some cafes failed to ensure physical distancing among customers. Others were also found to have served expired tobacco products and allowed underage customers inside smoking areas. Some cafes also allowed shisha sharing, or used multiple-use pipes instead of single-use pipes.

Rules for shisha cafes in Dubai

- Customers can only stay for up to three hours in smoking area - Employees must wash hands before and after providing service - Regular temperature checks for employees - No entry for customers and staff with Covid-19 symptoms - Provide isolation room for suspected cases - All shisha parts, including pipes, must be cleaned and disinfected before and after use - Physical distancing of two metres must be maintained - Tables must be set two metres apart, with maximum of five seats per table in smoking area - Gatherings or parties are not allowed - Employees must not test shisha before offering it to customer - Provide containers for medical waste, mask and gloves - Provide hand sanitisers in various areas of the café - Follow preventive measures when providing valet parking service ICA/Expat Media
