Dubai shopping sale: Eye on ‘unscrupulous’ traders

DUBAI – With the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) underway, authorities said they are intensifying inspections to ensure that all promotions are genuine. Retailers have announced discounts of up to 90 percent off prices during DSF, which runs until February 1. Consumers who spot misleading promotions or fraudulent retail practices are encouraged to report such incidents to the Dubai Economy through the hotline 600 54 5555. Meanwhile, uthorities said they have mobilized teams of inspectors to monitor the market and inspect establishments’ sale activities. The Department of Economic Development said on Monday (December 30) that the agency is intensifying its campaign to ensure transparency and authenticity of promotions during the mega sale season. "We are keen to ensure the quality and authenticity of the promotions and discounts offered here by retailers and also see that consumers do not fall prey to unscrupulous practices," said Mohammed Ali Rashed Lootah, CEO of Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection. Lootah said that the teams are following up on promotions and activities to verify their compliance with the regulations of Dubai Economy. "We make use of all conventional and online communication channels to ensure that the promotions are genuine and retailers do not violate the UAE Consumer Protection Law," he said. He also urged consumers to “purchase wisely”. GAD/Expat Media
