Dubai: Smartphone thief arrested after attempting to steal again in the same shop
An Asian man who had previously gotten away with stealing a smartphone from a shop in Dubai's Frij Al Murar district was apprehended after returning to the same business to repeat the crime. He was sentenced to one year in prison, followed by deportation. According to court papers, the first time he stole from the shop, he walked away without getting caught after he had pocketed a brand-new smartphone that wasn't attached to security cables. Shortly after stepping outside, he found a customer on the street and offered half the amount for the stolen phone. The thief returned to the store a month later to repeat the crime. He entered the store, feeling certain that no one would recognize him due to the face mask. He had yet to learn that the personnel was prepared for him. According to court documents, when one of the employees noticed the thief, he acted quickly and detained him until the Dubai Police patrol officers came. According to police and public prosecution investigations, the accused confessed to the crime upon detention.
