A group of 22 senior undergraduate engineering students from Canadian University Dubai (CUD) has made significant strides in sustainable urban transportation by creating a cutting-edge prototype of an autonomous car powered entirely by solar energy. The project represents the culmination of a year's worth of teamwork and collaboration across various disciplines within CUD's school of Engineering, Applied Science, and Technology. The autonomous car, developed as part of the students' graduation program, is now being explored for potential partnerships in the external transportation sector. There are discussions to utilize the solar-powered vehicle as a means of connecting CUD's two City Walk buildings, offering a green and futuristic transportation solution within the university campus. The students' solar-powered autonomous car prototype not only showcases the capabilities of young minds in the field of engineering but also paves the way for a more sustainable and technology-driven future of urban transportation in Dubai. This development aligns with the UAE's recent approval of the first national license for self-driving vehicles, indicating the nation's readiness to embrace cutting-edge transportation solutions. In early July, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the preliminary license for WeRide, a major step towards integrating autonomous vehicles onto the country's roads.
