Taxi rides from Dubai’s fireworks locations will be costlier with a flagdown rate of Dh20 during New Year’s Eve, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Friday (December 29). The new taxi fare applies on Hala Taxi services from 6pm on December 31 to 6am on January 1 in places where fireworks are located. Normal taxi fares start at Dh12, plus Dh1.97 per kilometer of travel. According to RTA, it will introduce new flagdown rates for metered taxis and Hala Taxis during major events in the city. “Through these changes, (we aim) to continuously improve and develop both regular taxi services and the e-hail ride of Hala Taxi, especially during major events like New Year's Eve, which typically sees a significant increase in demand for taxi services from residents, visitors, and tourists travelling to Dubai from all over the world,” according to RTA. Dubai’s Events Security Committee announced this week that the emirate will see fireworks displays in 32 locations for New Year’s Eve. Fireworks shows will be spread out in Dubai and Hatta, including popular sites such as Burj Khalifa, Bluewaters, Palm Jumeirah, Kite Beach and The Beach.
