A driverless street sweeper cleans up a bicycle trail in Dubai. DUBAI MUNICIPALITY
Testing is underway for driverless street sweepers that can clean up bicycle trails on Dubai’s public beaches. The autonomous electric cleanup vehicles were rolled out for testing in Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim. The move is part of Dubai’s efforts to clean its tourist hotspots, including public beaches. The new self-driving vehicles feature advanced sensors that enable it to avoid obstacles, ensuring a higher productivity rate as compared to manual cleaning. The vehicles can also work continuously for up to eight hours at a maximum speed of 40kmph. The Dubai Municipality has 72 cleaners and 12 supervisors working round-the-clock to keep the city’s public beaches clean.
