Dubai trials Robocop to catch e-scooter, bicycle violators
Dubai is rolling out a real-life version of Robocop to catch violators of the emirate’s e-scooter and bicycle laws. The robot, which goes on trial starting in March, can identify violators with its AI-powered surveillance reach of up to 2km. It can spot violations, including not wearing helmets, illegal parking, multiple riders, and riding in pedestrian zones. The violations are punishable with fines of up to Dh300. Data will be delivered to the Dubai Police within five seconds. The first phase of the trial run will begin in Jumeirah 3 beach area. The Roads and Transport Authority has signed an agreement with robotics and advanced technical systems provider Terminus Group to start the trial operation.
