Two Arab men have been sentenced to six months in prison and will be deported after serving their jail term for stealing two electric bikes in Dubai Marina. The Dubai Criminal Court also imposed a fine of Dh6,200 on the defendants. The incident dates back to March 2024, when an Asian couple reported the theft of their electric bicycles from a designated parking space near a shopping center in Dubai Marina. The husband stated in the police report, "We left the bikes locked in the parking area and went into the mall. When we returned, the locks were broken, and the bikes were gone." A police team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) reviewed surveillance footage from the area, which showed the two suspects breaking the locks and fleeing with the electic bikes. One of the suspects was arrested and initially denied involvement, claiming that he found the bicycles with his friend and assumed they belonged to their acquaintances. However, the second suspect confessed to the theft during interrogation, admitting to using iron scissors to break the locks. The confession led to their conviction, and both men will face deportation after completing their sentences. ICA/Expat Media
