Two people were imprisoned for defrauding an investor and his friend with a Bitcoin deal. An Asian investor reported being robbed and attacked in his Mankhool home last July. He said his friend (the second victim) gave him a Bitcoin promoter's number and urged that he invest in digital currency. The broker came to his house and asked to see the cash value of the digital currency the victim wished to buy. After checking the money, he promised to come back with the Bitcoin seller in 15 minutes. He waited at home when the broker called him minutes later to say that the seller was hesitant to close the deal at the house. He heard a knock on the door and was beaten by two men who restrained him and seized the bag with Dh183,000, three phones, documents, and bank cheques. The suspects also threatened to kill the victim. The Dubai Criminal Court convicted them, sentenced them to three years in prison, fined them the stolen money, and ordered their deportation after serving their sentences. BKM/ Expat Media
