Dubai: Two jailed for stealing vehicle, Dh147,000 from their workplace

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced two Asians to two years in prison, followed by deportation, for stealing a vehicle and Dh147,000 from the company for which they worked. The incident began in June of last year when an employee of an electronics trading company filed a police report alleging that a vehicle and an envelope containing Dh147,000 belonging to the company had been stolen. The money was in the custody of the employee, who was accompanied by the prisoners, one of them was the driver of the vehicle because they were on duty, according to the Court. During questioning, the employee indicated that he had asked the driver to pull over next to a grocery store so he could buy smokes and other stuff, and he had entered the grocery store. When he returned, he was astonished to find the vehicle at a different location, so he contacted the driver and the other, but they had both turned off their phones. Then he realized they'd stolen the car and the money, so he called the cops. A cop also testified that the investigative team found the driver and his coworker, who was arrested and had the money.
