A Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced an Asian vegetable vendor to one month in jail, a Dh10,000 fine, and deportation after he was found guilty of stabbing a man during an altercation. The incident occurred in February 2024 near Dubai Investment Park. According to police, the altercation escalated when the victim, who had consumed alcohol, physically assaulted the vendor by kicking and grabbing him by the neck. The informant who reported the incident said he witnessed the suspect being attacked and pushed to the ground. The vendor then chased the man and stabbed him twice, in the chest and back, before fleeing the scene. “The victim suffered a spleen injury and internal bleeding,” a report from the General Department of Criminal Evidence stated, classifying the injuries as serious. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to stabbing the man with a knife he used for work. “I didn’t intend to kill him. I just wanted to retaliate after he assaulted me,” he told investigators. The court found the man guilty of assault with a deadly weapon and ordered his deportation following the completion of his sentence. ICA/Expat Media
