A man on visit visa in Dubai has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering a man at a café near the Dubai Water Canal. The Dubai Criminal Court also sentenced five others to 10 years in jail for abetting the murder. According to records, the incident happened last May when an Arab waiter reported to police that a man was stabbed near the café. The waiter said that the victim was chased by a number of men, including a man who pulled out a knife from his pocket. The waiter said that the victim tried to escape in a vehicle that was parked near the cafe, but the driver did not let him in. The victim was then stabbed in the chest by the man chasing him with a knife. Police were able to identify the suspects and arrested two of them within three hours of the murder. Other suspects were arrested at the airport as the tried to flee to a European country. During interrogation, the defendants told police they belonged to one family and came to the UAE for shopping. They said that they met the victim at a café where they killed him due to a family feud. The court ruled that the attacker is guilty of premeditated murder, and that he tracked down the victim in Dubai and carried a knife with an intent to kill him at any encounter. ICA/Expat Media
