Dubai visitor suffers burns after waiter drops liquid nitrogen on her
A visitor in Dubai suffered minor burns after a waiter at a restaurant in the emirate accidentally dropped liquid nitrogen on her, according to reports on Friday (January 27). Aline Fleihan, an architect based in Riyadh, said she was rushed to the hospital for treatment after a waiter at Japanese restaurant Tabu spilled liquid nitrogen on her, Khaleej Times reported. The incident happened on January 20 when she and three other friends dined at the high-end restaurant in Downtown Dubai. Fleihan said the waiter was carrying a tray with food, drinks and a container of liquid nitrogen when he dropped it and it fell on her back. Fleihan said the liquid nitrogen initially caused a lot of smoke when it went in contact with her clothes, but felt cold on her skin. Later, she “started to feel skin burning”. She was rushed to the washroom where her friends tried to clean her back with warm water. A team from Tabu also reportedly offered first-aid. She was then sent to the hospital where the doctor said she was “lucky to escape with relatively smaller burns. He said I could have gone blind.” Fleihan said that when she later reported the incident to the owner of the restaurant, she was only offered complimentary meal for four as compensation. The founder of Tabu restaurant said it was “very sorry” about the incident and that it was "working very closely with Dubai Municipality" to investigate the matter.
