The Dubai Electronic Security Centre has warned residents about a rise in fraud attempts involving fake QR codes, particularly those sent through email. According to the centre, scammers are taking advantage of the rapid spread of information by distributing QR codes that claim to provide urgent updates or services. Authorities said scanning these codes may lead to malicious websites or trigger the installation of malware designed to steal personal and financial information. The Dubai Electronic Security Centre urged the public to verify the source of emails before scanning any QR code and to avoid interacting with suspicious messages. Residents were also advised not to enter sensitive information on untrusted websites. The centre highlighted the use of its “RZAM” application, which provides real-time alerts about suspicious websites and allows users to scan links before opening them. Authorities said the tool can help enhance online safety and reduce the risk of cyber fraud. CAM/Expat Media
