Dubai's toll gate system may see an increase in toll fees as a shift to dynamic pricing is being considered to better manage traffic congestion. This potential shift in toll fees could mark a significant change in how traffic is managed in Dubai, with Salik CEO Ibrahim Alhaddad suggesting that the current flat rate of Dh4 is no longer as effective in regulating traffic flow as it once was. “There was a statement from the RTA earlier this year about the possibility of implementing dynamic pricing in the future, although no specific time frame has been set,” Alhaddad said during a recent Investor Conference Call, “Studies indicate that the Dh4 toll has lost much of its impact on traffic. A dynamic pricing model, where rates vary depending on the time of day, is needed.” Salik previously revealed that it could introduce “dynamic pricing” to help ease traffic congestion on Dubai roads. According to the toll operator, this means that fees may be higher for specific lanes or during peak hours. The good news is that “this approach might include exemptions during off-peak hours”, according to Salik. Before any changes are implemented, Salik plans to thoroughly review the financial implications of dynamic pricing and seek approval from the Dubai Executive Council. PIA/Expat Media
