Dubai: Woman jailed for defrauding investor of Dh1.1 million for fake massage center

An Asian woman has been jailed in Dubai for defrauding an investor of Dh1.1 million with a partnership offer in a fake massage center. The Dubai Misdemeanour Court sentenced her to two years in jail and fined her Dh1.1 million. She will be deported after serving her jail term. The Asian investor said the woman offered him a partnership in a massage center that she said she owned. She showed him government certificates that later turned out to be forged. Convinced that her offer was real, the investor transferred money to her bank account. However, he started becoming suspicious after she later asked him to pay a fine of Dh166,000, claiming that he will be jailed if he doesn't pay it. When he consulted his lawyer, he found out that there was no such fine. He then asked her to return his money, but she delayed giving him a refund. The Asian investor reported her to the police after she failed to return his money. During interrogation, the woman confessed to defrauding the investor. ICA/Expat Media
