An Asian woman stole a gold necklace worth Dh20,000 from an employer after being hired as a maid to look after an older woman and children. She received a six-month prison term, a Dh20,000 fine, and a deportation order from the Dubai Criminal Court. According to police reports, a woman reported that a gold necklace worth Dh20,000 had been taken from her bedroom closet in June. After the accused contacted her via WhatsApp, she claimed to have recently recruited a maid through an online job advertisement. The victim said that she hired the maid only after asking her for a valid passport and visa copy. After 14 days of employment, the employer noticed that the maid had vanished. When she inspected her room, she discovered that her clothes had been dispersed and the necklace had gone. The accused's phone was off when she tried to call the maid, so she reported it to the police. The maid admits to stealing the jewelry when questioned. She also acknowledged that she was working with a fake duplicate of another woman's residency permit while she was inside the nation illegally. Additionally, the accused acknowledged committing the offense more than once. She claimed that she preyed on households searching for housekeepers and that she had previously stolen Dh5,000 from an Arab family in Mirdif.
