Woman was on her way home when defendant followed her and groped her from behind

  DUBAI – The Dubai Court of First Instance imposed a three-month jail sentence on a Pakistani worker for groping an Indian woman on the street last January. Court records showed that the woman, who works as a secretary, had just alighted from a bus at about 3:15 a.m. on that day of the incident and was on her way home when the 20-year-old defendant followed her and groped her as they were in a dark area of the street. In her testimony, the woman said: "I stepped out of the bus and was walking towards my residence when the accused came from behind and groped me and then ran away quickly. I tried to chase him, he apologised to me and said that he is a Muslim and then ran away. It was too dark and I did not find anybody to help me stop the defendant. When I reached the building where I live, I told the security guards what had happened. The guards called the police and they also went on a manhunt in the vicinity. Shortly after that, the police apprehended two persons and showed them to me at the building but I told them that none of them was the defendant. Six minutes later, they brought in another person, and it turned out to be the same molester. He was taken into custody." The defendant pleaded not guilty to the accusation against him but the court convicted him nonetheless. The court also ordered the defendant's deportation after he finishes his prison term.
