The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a young Arab man to one year in prison for stabbing his Asian girlfriend with a knife during a fight after suspecting that she was spying on his phone. The man will be deported once he has served his sentence. The appellate court upheld the ruling. The case began in February 2022 when an Asian woman filed a complaint alleging that her Arab boyfriend had stabbed her. According to the victim's account, she was astonished when the accused woke her up, slapped her face, and beat her up for no apparent reason. When she asked why he was beating her, he continued to assault her in various places of her body, accusing her of spying on his phone. She went on to say that she requested him to leave the room, but he refused and stabbed her many times with a knife close to the bed. The complainant clarified that she attempted to escape while her boyfriend was still in the bathroom, but he caught her, so she screamed for aid from the hotel residents. The assailant then begged the victim not to tell the cops and to return to the room, but she refused and went to the hospital for treatment and informed the authorities. According to the case file, the police summoned the accused, who denied attacking the victim, claiming that he had been in a relationship with her for three years and that on the day of the assault, he was with her in a hotel in the Muraqqabat area. He also stated that she suddenly screamed and knocked on the door of the next room without reason, so he followed and grabbed her towards the room, but she collapsed on the floor. According to the forensic report, the victim suffered injuries from a sharp tool, as well as bruises, swelling in the face, and bruises on the arm, right forearm, thigh, and left leg, and that her treatment lasted more than 20 days, but the injuries did not result in permanent handicap.
