Expansion planned on Dubai’s Al Khail Road

  DUBAI – The busy Al Khail Road in Dubai will be expanded to include one more lane in efforts to ease traffic congestion in the emirate. The planned Al Khail Road widening is part of five road improvements in Dubai and is expected to increase traffic flow by 1,800 vehicles per hour on the highway, said Mattar Al Tayer, director general of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Al Tayer said that one lane will be added to Al Khail Road in the direction of Sharjah in the area between Meydan Road before Dubai Mall Bridge. The exit at the intersection of Hessa and Al Khail Road will also be widened to two lanes from a current single lane to ease bottleneck there. Another lane would be added to the collector road parallel to Al Khail Road at the intersection with Hessa Road inbound from the Sheikh Zayed Road heading to Sharjah. Al Tayer said this expansion would increase the road capacity from 1,500 vehicles per hour to 3,000 vehicles per hour.
