A sneak peek of Dubai’s modern bus stations

  DUBAI – By the end of the year, two bus stations in Dubai will be transformed into a modern hub complete with retail outlets and offices, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Work on the model stations in Satwa and Oud Metha is now 77 percent complete and is expected to be finished by the end of 2020, according to the RTA. “The new stations boast a unique design that blends innovative engineering designs with new concepts of public transport," said Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA. The Oud Metha Station will sit on 9,640 square metres of space and will have a three-level bus station with rooftop parking for buses, taxis and private vehicles. The station will serve several bus routes, including those from Dubai Academic City and the International City, and is expected to accommodate up to 10,000 commuters. The station will also feature public rest areas, prayer rooms, staff offices, a child corner and snack machines. Meanwhile, the Al Satwa Station will span 11,912 square metres, with two floors and a rooftop parking. The station can accommodate 7,800 passengers per day.
