The Road and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai renewed a warning to the public against using illegal carlifts in the emirate. In an online video, the RTA said that passengers “might be subject to unprofessional behavior” onboard carlifts, a local term for unauthorised transportation or illegal taxi services. The RTA also said it will be difficult for passengers to file complaints or retrieve lost items if they use carlifts. Under the UAE traffic law, motorists offering carlift services will be fined Dh3,000 plus 24 black points on their traffic file. The car will also be impounded for 30 days. Police said most cars used in illegal taxi services are owned by individuals or people who employ unlicensed drivers to operate the illegal service.
