Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to expand the Soft Mobility Project in the Al Barsha 1 and 2 in the third quarter of the year 2022. The Soft Mobility Project aims to create an integrated infrastructure that can encourage individual mobility means such as walking, cycling, and electric scooters in areas such as development projects, attractions areas, and mass transit. Outputs under this project include more cycling tracks, bike racks, shaded areas, pedestrian crossings, landscaped areas, car parks, pick-up and drop-off points, and more accessibility for people of determination. RTA will implement similar projects in the eight districts namely Al Ras, Al Bateen, Al Daghaya, Eyal Nasser, Al Souq Al Kabeer, Hor Al Anz, Abu Hail, and Al Sabkha. The authority aims for the number of districts with soft mobility to increase by 29 at the end of 2026, ensuring safe and smooth transportation for the journey within the emirate. The selection of districts for the Soft Mobility project implementation is based on several criteria including the availability of mass transit means, population density, land use type, ridership rates, and current situation of infrastructures for pedestrians and cyclists in the area.
