In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Dubai Tram, Dubai's Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, gave directives on Sunday (November 3) to study a new "trackless trams" project. This initiative is set to introduce autonomous, electric trams to enhance Dubai’s sustainable public transportation network across eight city locations. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will lead the study to evaluate the feasibility and logistics of these trackless trams. Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the need for innovative AI-driven solutions in Dubai’s infrastructure expansion. "Dubai will continue to expand its infrastructure, driving accelerated growth and enriching the lives of its people," he said, reflecting the emirate's commitment to a tech-driven future. The trackless tram system aims to be a game-changer for Dubai’s transportation, offering a smooth, green alternative to traditional public transit modes. As part of its commitment to eco-friendly solutions, RTA is dedicated to implementing electric and autonomous transit that will cater to Dubai’s daily ridership of over 2.2 million people. This project is part of the RTA’s Main Roads Development Plan 2024-2027, which includes Dh16 billion earmarked for infrastructure and 22 major projects. These initiatives aim to enhance connectivity and ease traffic flow across the city. The RTA plans to review locations based on passenger density, feasibility, and environmental impact, ensuring that trackless trams contribute to Dubai’s status as a model of sustainable urban living.
