'I was duped, kidnapped, beaten': Dubai saleswoman
DUBAI - An Uzbek saleswoman has sued her Palestinian boss and ex-lover after he allegedly ordered her kidnapping and forced her to sign a Dh150,000 debt receipt.
In her testimony, the Uzbek, 30, said she started working at the Palestinian man's company in Dubai in 2017 and shortly had a relationship with him.
She later discovered that he was married and decided to break up with him and resign from the company. She also moved out of her apartment in Business Bay, which was provided to her as company accommodation.
After filing a request at Tasheel to have her work visa cancelled, her Sudanese colleague asked to meet her to hand over her visa cancellation papers.
They met at a parking lot in Al Ghusais where he offered her a ride. She got inside the vehicle, believing that they were headed to a typing centre to process the paperwork. Their Egyptian colleague was also onboard the car.
According to records, the Egyptian and Sudanese assaulted her in the backseat of the car and kidnapped her after she lost consciousness.
She woke up allegedly tied up inside a warehouse where she was beaten and forced to sign a document that said she owes her Palestinian boss Dh150,000.
They also allegedly threatend to kill her if she refused to continue her affair with the Palestinian.
“I was duped, kidnapped, beaten, threatened and coerced to sign a paper that I had taken a loan from him. They obtained that paper from me under duress," she told prosecutors
"I played along and pretended to have surrendered because I was scared to lose my life. The next day when he gave me the flat keys, I ran away and reported the police,” she testified.
Police arrested the Palestinian and the Sudanese and Egyptian employees. Two other suspects remain at large.
Prosecutors accused the trio of kidnapping, assault, issuing death threats, and coercion.
The Palestinian failed to show up in the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday, while the Sudanese and Egyptian men pleaded not guilty.
The hearing resumes on March 21.
