A dust storm in Dubai.
Dust storms blanketed various parts of the UAE on Wednesday (January 22), significantly reducing visibility and prompting weather advisories from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). Strong northeasterly winds, reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h, stirred up sand and dust, bringing visibility down to less than 2,000 meters in some areas. The adverse weather conditions persisted until 7pm. The NCM has forecasted similar conditions for Thursday (January 23), with dusty and partly cloudy skies. "Residents can expect moderate winds, occasionally reaching speeds of 25-40 km/h, especially in eastern regions and coastal areas," the NCM stated. Humidity levels are expected to rise overnight, leading to a chance of light fog formation in western areas by Friday morning. Maritime activities in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman may also be affected, as moderate to rough seas are anticipated. The weather for the upcoming weekend will remain dusty and partly cloudy, with light to moderate winds and occasional active gusts. Humidity levels will remain high at night and in the early mornings, increasing the likelihood of fog in coastal and interior regions. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously due to reduced visibility.
