Duterte maintains big lead in Philippine presidential polls while in VP race, Marcos maintains slim lead over Robredo

  DUBAI – Tough-talking Philippine city mayor Rodrigo Duterte continued to lead in the unofficial tally of votes, with nearly 80 percent counted in Monday’s presidential election. Duterte received 14,185,242 votes, while his closest rival, Mar Roxas came in second with 8,467,233 votes. Grace Poe, who conceded defeat to Duterte on Monday evening, came in third place with 8,017,118 votes, while Jejomar Binay received 4,773,539 votes. Miriam Defensor-Santiago trailed with 1,314,921 votes. In the vice presidential race, Bongbong Marcos maintained a slim lead over Leni Robredo, with Marcos getting 12,516,581 votes and Robredo getting 12,368,578 votes. Duterte’s running mate, Alan Peter Cayetano, came in third with 5,059,431 votes. Chiz Escudero received 4,274,255 votes while Antonio Trillanes got 740,477 votes and Gringo Honasan got 656,759 votes. The results do not include votes from the overseas and local absentee voting. The elections was extended for one hour in parts of the Philippines where polling stations failed to open on time due to technical glitches with the automated vote counting machines. In Dubai, Overseas Voting was also extended by one hour. Partial results of the vote count at the Philippine Consulate-General on showed Duterte also taking the lead with 481 votes as of 3pm, while Roxas received 46 votes. Santiago got 35 votes, while Poe and Binay trailed with 13 and 5 votes respectively. In the vice presidential race, Marcos took the lead with 275 votes, followed by Cayetano with 193 votes. Robredo received 96 votes, while 19 votes went to Escudero. Honasan got one vote while Trillanes failed to get any vote. A total of 37,972 Filipinos participated in Overseas Voting in Dubai and the northern emirates.
