Duterte offers P5.5m bounty for Cebu drug lords in latest anti-crime campaign

  CEBU CITY - Philippine president-elect and outgoing Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is offering a P5.5 million reward for every slain drug lord here in Cebu. This offer is at least 100 times bigger than the offer of Cebu City Mayor-elect Tomas Osmena of P50,000 reward. "Ang sa Cebu kay buotan man ang mga tao diri. May premium P5.5 million (In Cebu, because everyone is nice here, the premium is P5.5 million)," Duterte told the close to 300 people who attended the private thanksgiving party of Bisaya Napud movement at Cebu Country Club. The tough-talking Duterte is known for his statements on killing criminals and drug lords in order to solve the criminality and drug problem in the country. But this time, he asked to look behind the caveat of what he is saying. "It's really the plea. Akong hangyo. Stop it. Stop it. Para walay samok. I plead for you to stop this country and we will be alright. Wala tayong problema (It's really the plea. I ask you to stop it so we don't have problems)," he said as he closed his 40-minute speech on Wednesday evening. Duterte also said he was aware that some policemen, especially those who are handling drug arrests, sometimes do not declare the actual volume of the drugs that they have confiscated in raids. He asked policemen to stop this practice. "I do not want to go to the extreme but I am asking for the reversal of these things.
