Senator Trillanes says Paolo Duterte has a Chinese triad tattoo on his back

  MANILA – Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Thursday accused Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte of being a member of a Chinese drug syndicate, claiming that the eldest son of President Rodrigo Duterte has a tattoo of the triad on his back that has "sacred digits". Vice Mayor Duterte admitted he has a tattoo on his back but refused to show it when he appeared in a Senate Blue Ribbon committee hearing on Thursday in relation to the smuggling of 6.4-billion-peso crystal meth from China through the Philippine Customs office in May. Vice Mayor Duterte invoked his right to privacy for refusing to show the tattoo. The vice mayor and his brother-in-law, Attorney Manases Carpio, were tagged by Customs fixer Mark Taguba last week of involvement in the drug smuggling incident. Taguba however retracted a day after he made the accusation in a hearing of the Blue Ribbon committee. Trillanes said he received intelligence information from a foreign country that Vice Mayor Duterte had a dragon tattoo on his back and the tattoo is a symbol of the triad and "has sacred digits." Talking in a mix of Filipino and English in the Blue Ribbon committee hearing, Trillanes – an opposition senator and fierce critic of President Duterte - said: "The proof of his membership is the tattoo on his back. The tattoo itself has sacred digits. That will explain all that is going on. There is competition among syndicates because that's the physical evidence of his membership in the triad. This intelligence information was handed down to me from a foreign country and it was validated, with Mr. Paolo Duterte admitting it." When asked if the tattoo is colored and looked like a dragon, the vice mayor replied: "I invoke my right to privacy." Prior to the discussion about the tattoo, Vice Mayor Duterte said he appeared before the committee out of respect for the body and the Senate as a whole and to deny "all the baseless accusations" against him. He also said he cannot answer all the allegations against him that are based on hearsay. Meanwhile, Trillanes inquired about the vice mayor's bank accounts allegedly amounting to 104 million pesos but Paolo invoked his right against self-incrimination and refused to sign a waiver to open his accounts for public scrutiny. Vice Mayor Duterte's lawyer Ching Madrid told reporters after the hearing that he advised Paolo not to sign any waiver to open his bank accounts and called Trillanes a "propagandist". Madrid also said the issue about the vice mayor's bank accounts containing ill-gotten wealth had been raised in the elections last year but the issue didn't stop Paolo from getting elected into office.
